HOT SECOND COMING

James Joseph Salon has been one of the hottest in the Northeast since it opened eight years ago — so hot that three years ago, it moved from its 168 Newbury Street location to much larger digs at 30 Newbury. But even that expansion wasn’t enough to sate the hair-obsessed masses. Last month, owner William George opened James Joseph Studio in the original space at 168 Newbury. With its staff of 12 expert stylists, the studio is a lower-priced version of the salon: here, haircuts range from $40 to $50, while the salon’s run $60 to $110. In fact, if you’re willing to see any stylist available, your haircut is guaranteed to be $40. " It’s a great thing for students, a great thing for someone who wants to sample a number of people, " George explains. The studio has also introduced " Late-Night Thursdays. " Trying to avoid a date with someone? On Thursday evenings you can actually say, " I’m sorry . . . I’m washing my hair tonight " and head over to the studio, which is open until 9:30.
